The Radiologic Health Branch (RHB) is now part of the California
Department of Public Health. Effective July 1, 2007, the California
Department of Health Services reorganized to form the California
Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the California Department of
Health Care Services (DHCS). Due to that reorganization, the content on
this website is being gradually transferred to the new CDPH website. At
some point in 2008 this website will be retired but no date has yet been
firmly established. For more information on the reorganization, please
visit the new CDPH homepage at www.cdph.ca.gov.
The Radiologic Health Branch is within the Food,
Drug, and Radiation Safety Division of the Department of Health Services. The
Branch enforces the Radiation Control Laws and Regulations designed to protect
the public, radiation workers, and the environment. It is responsible for
providing public health functions associated with administering a radiation
control program. This includes licensing of radioactive materials, registration
of X-ray-producing machines, certification of X-ray and radioactive material
users, inspection of facilities using radiation, investigation of radiation
incidents, and surveillance of radioactive contamination in the environment.
VISION
The Radiologic Health Branch is a world-class organization in radiologic health and safety. We envision a California where:
- Radiation is used safely and effectively
- Individuals are protected from unnecessary radiation exposure; and
- Environmental quality is preserved and maintained.
