Clinical Laboratory Director, Bioanalyst and
Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
Application, Licensing Examination, Training Schools, Accrediting Agencies, and
Phlebotomy Certification
California law requires that Clinical Laboratory Scientists
for both generalist and specialty categories be licensed by the Department of
Health Services, Laboratory Field Services Branch. The documents below
provide important information regarding the application, instructions, review
process, examination dates, and temporary license requirements for education and
training.

Licensing is accomplished through an application process and examination. To

LFS also approves training schools for clinical laboratory personnel including
schools that provide instruction in venipuncture procedures (phlebotomy). To
