In service to the protection and promotion of public health
The Laboratory Central Services Branch works in partnership with the
Department of Health Services by providing centralized professional, technical,
and administrative support to the laboratories. The program focus is on the
prevention of diseases in the community by ensuring that the integrity of
medical and environmental specimens and samples are maintained prior to
analysis; preparing and quality assuring unique and essential diagnostic media
and reagents; developing and evaluating decontamination and disposal procedures
for medical waste; and providing telephone conference services vital to the
Department of Health Services mission. The program also provides professional
guidance for the prevention of occupational injury and illness in public health
and clinical laboratories. The material is presented here to reflect and support
