Organizations and Associations
American
School Health Association unites the many professionals working in
schools who are committed to safeguarding the health of school-aged
children. The Association is a multidisciplinary organization of
administrators, counselors, health educators, physical educators,
psychologists, school health coordinators, school nurses, school physicians,
and social workers. Its mission is to protect and promote the health and
well-being of children and youth through coordinated school health programs
as a foundation for school success.
US
Department of Health and Human Services is the United States
government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and
providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to
help themselves.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), Adolescent and School Health CDC's Division of Adolescent and
School Health (DASH) seeks to prevent the most serious health risk behaviors
among children, adolescents and young adults.
California Department of Education, Healthy
Kids Resource Center (CHKRC)
maintains a comprehensive collection of health education materials for use by
teachers, administrators, university faculty, LEA staff and other professionals
who work with preschool through 12th grade students in school settings and
after-school programs.
California Head Start Association
is the unified voice providing leadership and advocacy for the Head Start
community. It is the mission of the CHSA to provide it's members, the early
care and education community, and our friends with up-to-date information from
California's Capitol in Sacramento and our nation's Capitol in Washington DC.
California School Library Association
is an organization of library media teachers, classroom teachers,
paraprofessionals, district and county coordinators of curriculum, media and
technology, and others committed to enriching student learning by building a
better future for school libraries.
National School Boards Association
is committed to helping school policymakers and educators make informed
decisions about health issues affecting the academic achievement and healthy
development of students and the effective operation of schools. In its
beliefs and policies, NSBA recognizes
the critical link of health and learning and the role of schools in promoting
life-long health and preventinghealth risk behaviors.
California
School Boards Association (CSBA) is a collaborative group of
virtually all of the state’s more than 1,000 school districts and county offices
of education. It brings together school governing boards and their districts and
county offices on behalf of California’s children. CSBA is a member-driven
association that supports the governance team — school board members,
superintendents and senior administrative staff — in its complex leadership
role. We develop, communicate and advocate the perspective of California school
districts and county offices of education.

Teachers Association exists to protect and promote the well-being of
its members; to improve the conditions of teaching and learning; to advance the
cause of free, universal, and quality public education; to ensure that the human
dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected; and to secure
a more just, equitable, and democratic society.
National Association of State Boards of
Education is
the only national organization giving voice and adding value to the nation's
State Boards of Education. A non-profit organization founded in 1958, NASBE
works to strengthen state leadership in educational policymaking, promote
excellence in the education of all students, advocate equality of access to
educational opportunity, and assure continued citizen support for public
education.
National
Governors' Association (NGA)
is the collective voice of the nation's
governors and one of Washington, D.C.'s, most respected public policy
organizations. NGA provides governors and their senior staff members with
services that range from representing states on Capitol Hill and before the
Administration on key federal issues to developing policy reports on innovative
state programs and hosting networking seminars for state government executive
branch officials. The NGA Center for Best Practices focuses on state innovations
and best practices on issues that range from education and health to technology,
welfare reform, and the environment. NGA also provides management and technical
assistance to both new and incumbent governors.

Federation of Teachers (CFT)
is the California affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
The CFT is composed of 135 local unions chartered by the AFT. Each local is also
affiliated with its regional Central Labor Council and the California Labor
Federation. The CFT's central commitment is embodied in its slogan, "Education
for Democracy, Democracy in Education."
American Academy of Pediatrics
is an organization of 60,000 pediatricians
committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health and
well-being for all infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Learn about

Advocates for Youth
champions efforts to help young people make
informed and responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health.
Advocates believes it can best serve the field by boldly advocating for a more
positive and realistic approach to adolescent sexual health. Advocates for
Youth envisions a society that views sexuality as normal and healthy and treats
young people as a valuable resource. The core values of Rights, Respect,
Responsibility® (3Rs) animate this vision.

At the heart of Health Policy Guide is a database of policy-based
strategies to improve health and well being -- consequently, we have brought a
topic index of those profiles to the forefront of the home page. We have changed
the name to Health Policy Guide to reflect the natural complement between
CHI's Health Policy Guide to the
Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC)
Guide to Community Preventive
Services. Both sites aim to improve the public's health by providing
effective strategies and interventions designed to reduce the incidence of
preventable illnesses, injuries and deaths.
Healthy People 2010
is a set of health objectives for the Nation to
achieve over the first decade of the new century. It can be used by many
different people, States, communities, professional organizations, and others to
help them develop programs to improve health.
Center For
Health Improvement (CHI) is a
national, independent, nonprofit health policy center dedicated to improving
population health and encouraging healthy behaviors. CHI uses evidenced-based
research as the basis for policy innovation and implementation. Since 1995, CHI
has partnered with all levels of government, advocacy and community
organizations, philanthropic foundations, and educators.
