The Disease Investigations Section provides consultation and assistance to local counties and hospitals in the investigations and control/prevention of infectious diseases and outbreaks. The Surveillance and Statistics Section collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates data from local health jurisdictions around the State on all legally reportable diseases and also maintains a typhoid carrier registry and a deferred donor registry (both of which are mandated by statutes). The Vector-Borne Disease Section is a service agency which, through its seven regional offices, provides technical consultation and assistance to local vector control agencies to prevent and control such vector-borne diseases as hantavirus, plague, malaria,
tick-borne diseases, and arboviral encephalitis. The Veterinary Public Health Section assists local counties in the investigations and control/prevention of zoonotic diseases, such as rabies, brucellosis, and Q-fever.
