When detected early both breast and cervical cancers can be treated more effectively. Women who discuss breast cancer screening with their physicians are up to 12 times more likely to receive a mammogram than women who do not.

Comprehensive Cancer Control in California Plan
The California Comprehensive Cancer Plan is a strategic plan of action, developed by dedicated individuals and organizations concerned with the burden of cancer on Californians. The California Dialogue on Cancer (CDOC) was formed to provide guidance for the comprehensive plan. The plan was released to the public May 2004.
Program Fact Sheets and Science in Brief Projects on the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, 2004/2005
Easy-to-read, concise Program Fact Sheets provide an overview on the disease burden, CDC's role in detecting, preventing, and controlling cancer, and descriptions of CDC-funded program activities. The Science In Briefs provide an overview of selected research projects for CDC's cancer activities. They give background on the projects and highlight the scope, project objectives, and estimated completion dates.

Developed to educate women about lifestyle factors related to reducing the risk of breast cancer. Topics include: nutrition, physical activity and managing stress. Use this curriculum to help motivate your clients to take action.

Clinical Breast Examination: Practical Recommendations for Optimizing Performance and Reporting, 2004
This report provides a brief review of evidence for CBE's role in the earlier detection of breast cancer, highlights current practice issues, and presents recommendations that, when implemented, could contribute to greater standardization of the practice and reporting of CBE. These recommendations may also lead to improved evidence of the nature and extent of CBE's contribution to the earlier detection of breast cancer.
