The USC Memory and Aging Center is an
acclaimed facility for clinical research on Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and related
disorders. The Center has been a federally funded Alzheimer’s Disease Core
Center (ARCC) since 1999. The State Alzheimer's Disease Research Center of
California (ARCC) complements existing NIA funding and brings additional AD
research and care resources to USC. The ARCC is directed by Lon S. Schneider,
M.D., who serves as Principal Investigator and. He ensures
the integration between cores and projects of both Centers.
The USC ARCC is composed of an interdisciplinary team of health-care
professionals dedicated to:
improving the lives of patients with Alzheimer's disease and their
caregivers
furthering our understanding of dementing disorders
Our primary goal is to extend the
cognition, function, behavior, and quality of life of Alzheimer's patients and
their caregivers. Being part of an ethnically diverse community, and comprised
of an ethnically diverse staff, USC ARCC’s team wants to create clinical,
research, and educational programs that can be helpful to the community’s
diversity.
The USC ARCC offers families access to
diagnostic and treatment planning services, ongoing medical care, treatment with
approved and experimental medications, and educational programs about Alzheimer's
disease and related dementias. The activities of the ARCC expand the
opportunities for care and research activities at UCLA and affiliated sites,
translating research advances for widespread community use, and developing
information and programs with practical applications that improve the care of
dementia patients and their caregivers.
